Cowichan
Bay is located on the eastern coast of Vancouver Island adjacent to
the Gulf Islands. Global positioning coordinates are 48.7333° N, 123.6167°
W. The Village serves as a gateway to one of the world's premier cruising
and sailing areas.
By
road, the Village is 45 minutes north of Victoria on the Trans Canada
Highway. The turn off for the village is clearly sign-posted as a "Scenic
Seaside Village" route. The Village of Cowichan Bay is the historic
gateway to the Cowichan Valley. In the days when water transportation
dominated, Cowichan Bay served as the valley's "front-door".
Cowichan translates as 'the warmlands' in the local first-nations language.
The name is appropriate as the valley enjoys the warmest & most
comfortable winter climate in all of Canada.
